Why This Recipe Works

  • The use of an air fryer eliminates the need for deep-frying, making this recipe a healthier alternative to traditional churros.
  • The addition of cinnamon and powdered sugar adds a sweet and spicy flavor that complements the churros perfectly.

Key Ingredients

When it comes to making the perfect churros, using high-quality ingredients is key. Here are a few tips for selecting the best ingredients for your air fryer churro bites:

All-purpose flour is a must-have for making churros. Look for a high-protein flour that will help the dough rise and give the churros a light and fluffy texture. We recommend using a flour with a protein content of at least 12%.

Granulated sugar is another essential ingredient in churros. Use a high-quality sugar that dissolves easily and adds a sweet flavor to the dough. We recommend using a sugar with a fine texture and a hint of vanilla flavor.

Large eggs are also a must-have for making churros. Use fresh eggs that are at room temperature for the best results. We recommend using eggs with a high-quality protein content and a thick, creamy texture.

Vegetable oil is used to brush the churros before baking. Use a neutral-tasting oil that won’t add any flavor to the churros. We recommend using a light oil with a high smoke point, such as canola or grapeseed oil.

Cinnamon is a classic flavor in churros. Use a high-quality cinnamon that has a warm, spicy flavor. We recommend using a Ceylon cinnamon or a Mexican cinnamon that has a sweet and slightly spicy flavor.

Powdered sugar is used to dust the churros before serving. Use a high-quality powdered sugar that dissolves easily and adds a sweet flavor to the churros. We recommend using a powdered sugar with a fine texture and a hint of vanilla flavor.

Yield:
4 Servings

Ingredients

2 cups all-purpose flour

1/2 cup granulated sugar

2 large eggs

1/4 cup vegetable oil

1 tsp ground cinnamon

Powdered sugar (for dusting)

Air fryer

Piping bag and tip

Cinnamon sticks (optional)

Directions

1
Preheat the air fryer to 375°F (190°C). In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, and cinnamon. Add the eggs and mix until a dough forms. Knead the dough for 5-7 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic. Cover the dough with plastic wrap and let it rest for 10 minutes.

2
Divide the dough into 8-10 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a long rope. Cut the rope into 1-inch pieces. You should end up with around 40-50 pieces.

3
Place the churro bites in a single layer in the air fryer basket. You may need to cook them in batches depending on the size of your air fryer. Cook the churros for 5-7 minutes, or until they are golden brown and crispy. Repeat with the remaining churros.

4
Dust the churros with powdered sugar and serve warm. If desired, serve with a side of cinnamon sugar for dipping.

5
To store leftovers, place the churros in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days. You can also freeze the churros for up to 2 months. Simply thaw at room temperature or reheat in the air fryer for 2-3 minutes.
