Key Ingredients

When selecting apples for this recipe, choose a mix of sweet and tart varieties, such as Granny Smith and Gala. This will provide a balanced flavor and texture.

Granny Smith apples have a high acidity level, which helps to balance the sweetness of the caramel and preserves the crunchiness of the apples. A balanced mix of sweet and tart apples will ensure the perfect flavor combination.

Ingredients

4-6 apples

1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, softened

1 cup brown sugar

1 tsp ground cinnamon

1/4 tsp salt

1 cup heavy cream

1 tsp vanilla extract

Confectioners’ sugar for dusting

Directions

1
Wash the apples, leaving the stems intact. Pat dry with a paper towel to remove excess moisture.

2
In a large saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt. Stir until the sugar dissolves, then bring the mixture to a simmer.

3
Reduce the heat to low and simmer the caramel mixture, stirring occasionally, until it thickens and turns a deep amber color (about 5-7 minutes).

4
Dip each apple into the hot caramel, coating the entire fruit in an even layer. Use a fork to secure the apple if needed.

5
Place the coated apples on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Drizzle any remaining caramel sauce over the apples.

Storage & Reheating

For up to 24 hours, store the apple bites in an airtight container at room temperature. Reheat the apple bites in the oven at 375°F (190°C) for 10-12 minutes, or until caramel is bubbly.
