Key Ingredients

For this recipe, we recommend reaching for high-quality baking products. Look for a rich, dark brownie mix that uses real chocolate and has a balanced sweetness level. As for the semi-sweet chocolate chips, choose a reputable brand that offers the perfect balance of sweet and bitter.

While many brownie enthusiasts swear by using only the finest, unique, small-batch chocolate, for this hack, we recommend sticking to a tried-and-true favorite. The goal is simplicity without sacrificing flavor, not showstopping indulgence. Feel free to add a personal touch by mixing in chocolate chunks, chopped pecans, or even crushed peanut butter cups, but be mindful of how these extra ingredients affect the heart-shaped design.

Ingredients

1 box heart-shaped brownie mix

1/2 cup unsalted butter

2 large eggs

1 tsp vanilla extract

1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

1 cup chopped walnuts

1/2 cup granulated sugar

1/4 cup all-purpose flour

Directions

1
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare your heart-shaped pan; grease it liberally with butter or cooking spray so the brownie mixture won’t stick. In a medium bowl, combine the box mix and melted butter until well combined.

2
Add eggs one at a time to the mixture, beating until each egg is fully incorporated and the creamy mixture looks smooth. Add the egg mixture to the bowl with the dry mix and stir until well combined. Fold in the vanilla extract and chocolate chips.

3
Pour half of the batter into a heart-shaped pan and add the remaining walnuts on top of the batter. Use the back of a spoon or spatula to create a pattern on top of the nuts. With the remaining batter, cover the nuts evenly. Use a greased spatula or knife to get a domed, flaky crust. Tap the baking sheet on the countertop twice and let cool for 5 minutes before removing to a wire rack.

4
Cut and serve warm. Best served freshly baked and while still gooey. You can dust the top with powdered sugar for an aesthetically appealing grandma-pop-approved flair.

Storage & Reheating

Once cooled, you can store these in an airtight container for up to 3 days. Reheat at 350°F (175°C) for 10 to 15 minutes or microwave individual brownies at 10-second intervals.
