  • 1 onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp sesame oil
  • 1 tsp soy sauce
  • 1 tsp honey

  • 1 tsp grated ginger
  • 1/4 cup sesame seeds
  • 1/4 cup chopped scallions, for garnish

Why This Recipe Works

  • Marinating the chicken in a mixture of sesame oil, soy sauce, and honey creates a depth of flavor that’s hard to beat.
  • The use of sesame seeds and scallions adds a nice texture and freshness to the dish.
  • The prep and cook time are ridiculously fast, making this a weeknight winner.

Key Ingredients

When it comes to sesame seeds, I highly recommend using a high-quality source like our favorite online spice store. They not only taste better but also have a more vibrant color to add a pop to your dish. For the sesame oil, a neutral-tasting brand like Marigold makes a great choice.

For the ginger, you can use either fresh or powdered – whichever you have on hand. Just be sure to not overdo it, as the flavor can quickly become overpowering.

Yield:

Ingredients

1 lb ground chicken

2 tbsp vegetable oil

1 onion, diced

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 tsp sesame oil

1 tsp soy sauce

1 tsp honey

1 tsp rice vinegar

1 tsp grated ginger

1/4 cup sesame seeds

1/4 cup chopped scallions, for garnish

Directions

1
In a medium-sized bowl, whisk together the chicken, sesame oil, soy sauce, honey, rice vinegar, and ginger until just combined. Cover and refrigerate for at least 15 minutes, or up to 2 hours.

2
Heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Remove the chicken from the marinade, letting any excess liquid drip off. Cook the chicken for 5-7 minutes per side, or until it reaches an internal temperature of 165°F.

3
Transfer the cooked chicken to a plate and tent with foil to keep warm. In the same skillet, add the remaining 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil, diced onion, and minced garlic. Cook, stirring occasionally, until the onion is translucent and the garlic is fragrant, about 4-5 minutes.

4
Add the sesame seeds and cooked chicken back into the skillet with the onion mixture. Stir-fry for 1-2 minutes, until the chicken is well coated and the sesame seeds are fragrant.

5
Serve immediately, garnished with chopped scallions, if desired.

Storage & Reheating

After cooking, let the Sesame Ground Chicken cool down completely before storing it in an airtight container. When reheating, simply nuke it in the microwave for about 30 seconds or toss with your favorite sides for a quick revamp.
