Why This Recipe Works

  • This recipe’s secret to softness lies in the use of a combination of granulated and brown sugar, which provides the perfect balance of sweetness and chewiness.
  • The use of room temperature ingredients ensures that the dough comes together smoothly and evenly, reducing the risk of overmixing and resulting in a more tender crumb.
  • The addition of pure vanilla extract gives the cookies a rich, creamy flavor that complements the sweetness of the sugar and the depth of the chocolate chips.

Key Ingredients

When it comes to baking, the quality of your ingredients can make all the difference. For these soft chocolate chip sugar cookies, I always recommend using high-quality, pure vanilla extract for the best flavor.

As for the chocolate chips, I prefer to use a high-cocoa-content chocolate for the deepest, richest flavor. If you can’t find high-cocoa-content chocolate, you can substitute with a combination of milk chocolate and dark chocolate for a slightly sweeter taste.

Yield:
4 Servings

Ingredients

2 cups all-purpose flour

1 cup granulated sugar

1/2 cup packed light brown sugar

2 large eggs

1 cup unsalted butter, softened

1 tsp pure vanilla extract

2 cupssemisweet chocolate chips

1/2 tsp salt

1 tsp baking powder

Directions

1
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper, leaving a 1-inch border around the edges. In a medium-sized bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.

2
In a large bowl, use an electric mixer to cream the butter and sugars until light and fluffy, about 2-3 minutes. Beat in the eggs one at a time, followed by the vanilla extract.

3
Gradually mix in the dry ingredients (flour mixture) until just combined, being careful not to overmix. Stir in the chocolate chips.

4
Use a cookie scoop or spoon to drop rounded balls of dough onto the prepared baking sheet, leaving about 2 inches of space between each cookie.

5
Bake for 12-14 minutes or until the edges are lightly golden brown and the centers are set. Remove from the oven and let cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

Storage & Reheating

Store leftover cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days. To reheat, place the cookie on a baking sheet and warm in the oven at 350°F (180°C) for 5-7 minutes, or until crispy on the outside and still chewy on the inside.
