Key Ingredients

All-purpose flour is the foundation of this bread, providing structure and texture. For best results, use a high-quality, unbleached flour with a high protein content. Look for brands like King Arthur or Bob’s Red Mill.

A sourdough starter is a natural yeast culture that’s used to leaven the bread. It’s available at most health food stores or can be made at home. For this recipe, use a mature starter that’s been fed and active.

Ingredients

2 cups all-purpose flour

1 cup sourdough starter

1 cup water

1 tsp salt

Directions

1
Combine the flour, sourdough starter, and water in a large mixing bowl. Mix until just combined, then cover and let rest for 10-15 minutes.

2
Preheat your oven to 450°F (230°C). Place a Dutch oven or a heavy-bottomed pot with a lid in the oven to preheat as well.

3
Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and shape into a round or oblong loaf. Place the loaf onto a piece of parchment paper or a silicone mat.

4
Place the loaf into the preheated Dutch oven or pot and cover with the lid. Bake for 25-30 minutes, then remove the lid and continue baking for an additional 5-10 minutes, or until the bread is golden brown.

Storage & Reheating

Once the bread has cooled completely, store it in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days. To reheat, simply wrap the bread in foil and bake at 350°F (180°C) for 10-15 minutes, or until warm and crispy.
