La Terra Fina Cranberry Jalapeno Dip Recipe (Copycat)
- Author: Maya Collins
- Yield: 16 1x
Creamy Cheese Base
- 12 ounces (340 g) full-fat block cream cheese, softened
- 1/4 cup full-fat sour cream
- 1/4 cup finely grated Asiago cheese, or aged Parmesan
Cranberry Jalapeno Mixture
- 1/2 cup sweetened dried cranberries, finely chopped
- 2 tablespoons cranberry juice concentrate
- 1 medium fresh jalapeno pepper, seeded and finely minced
- 1/4 cup finely minced yellow onion, or scallions
- 1 tablespoon cane sugar
- 1/4 teaspoon kosher salt
- Finely chop 1/2 cup sweetened dried cranberries. If they are unusually firm, soak them in hot water for approximately 3 minutes, then drain thoroughly and pat dry with paper towels.
- Place the chopped cranberries in a small bowl. Add 2 tablespoons cranberry juice concentrate and 1 tablespoon cane sugar. Stir until combined and set aside.
- Place 12 ounces softened block cream cheese and 1/4 cup sour cream in a large mixing bowl. Beat with an electric hand mixer until smooth and creamy.
- Add 1/4 cup finely grated Asiago cheese and 1/4 cup finely minced yellow onion or scallions. Mix for approximately 30 seconds until evenly incorporated.
- Remove the stem, seeds, and white inner ribs from 1 medium fresh jalapeno. Mince finely, then stir the jalapeno and 1/4 teaspoon kosher salt into the cranberry mixture.
- Add the cranberry-jalapeno mixture to the prepared cream cheese base. Using a silicone spatula, gently fold until the fruit and pepper pieces are distributed evenly throughout the dip.
- Transfer the mixture to an airtight container or covered serving bowl. Refrigerate for at least 2 hours, or overnight, to chill and allow the flavors to develop.
- Stir gently before serving. Serve chilled with pretzel chips, crackers, toasted baguette slices, celery sticks, or cucumber rounds.
Notes
Recipe Tips
- This is a homemade copycat inspired by La Terra Fina Cranberry & Jalapeno Dip & Spread, not the manufacturer’s official recipe.
- Use full-fat block cream cheese for the intended thick, creamy texture.
- Soften the cream cheese before mixing to reduce lumps.
- Use sweetened dried cranberries rather than substituting fresh cranberries directly.
- If soaking dry cranberries in hot water, drain and pat them completely dry before mixing.
- Chop the dried cranberries, onion, and jalapeno finely for even distribution.
- Remove the jalapeno seeds and inner ribs for a milder flavor.
- Asiago adds a savory cheese flavor. Aged Parmesan is an optional alternative, but changes the taste.
- Avoid adding extra cranberry juice concentrate unless deliberately adjusting the recipe.
- Fold the cranberry mixture gently into the cream cheese base.
- Refrigerate for at least 2 hours before serving.
Troubleshooting
- If the dip seems loose, refrigerate until thoroughly chilled before making adjustments.
- If liquid separates on the surface, gently remove the excess and stir the dip.
- A small amount of additional softened block cream cheese may help thicken the dip, but it changes the original proportions.
- Do not add raw flour or cornstarch directly to the finished cold dip.
- Finely grated Asiago adds body and flavor, but does not guarantee that separation cannot occur.
- If the dip tastes too spicy, serve it with additional mild crackers or vegetables.
- If it tastes too salty, additional plain cream cheese may dilute the seasoning, but will increase the batch size.
Serving Suggestions
- Serve chilled with pretzel chips, wheat crackers, toasted baguette slices, celery sticks, or cucumber rounds.
- Use as a spread for turkey or chicken sandwiches.
- Serve on a holiday appetizer board with vegetables and other savory snacks.
Storage
- Prepare the dip ahead and keep it covered in the refrigerator until serving.
- The supplied recipe recommends storing refrigerated leftovers for up to 5 days; use sooner if freshness is uncertain.
- Do not leave this dairy-based dip at room temperature for extended periods.
- Freezing is not recommended for the best texture because cream cheese and sour cream may separate after thawing.
